Get ready to bring on the happy. April can be a touch and go kind of month when the long awaited spring sunshine is frequently mixed with a bout of residual wintery blusters. These ugly weather twisters affect our brains making us as gloomy as the outdoors. Fortunately, we can boost our moods with a variety of foods filled with natural happy inducing hormones. My favorite is chocolate. One small square of dark chocolate contains a pleasure promoting neurotransmitter called phenylethylamine, which stimulates a rush of endorphins, the same compound released during exercise.  Another brain booster is fish like Salmon and tuna. Research has shown that people who eat fish rich in Omega 3 fatty acids are more likely to be upbeat and agreeable.  Walnuts and Almonds are another great source of Omega 3’s.
